Hey, I’m Josh. Welcome to the shop floor.

A few weeks ago, I was standing in the garage holding a mailbox post that was about a quarter inch out of square, trying to decide whether to recut it or just call it done. I called it done. It’s out front right now, holding mail just fine. That moment pretty much sums up why this place exists.

I’m Josh Bailey, and I run The Maker Dad. I’m a woodworker, a maker, and a dad here in Florida, and I do all of this alongside a full-time job and a busy house. My shop time comes in stolen hours, my projects take longer than I’d like, and I make plenty of mistakes. I film those too.

The whole idea behind The Maker Dad is something I call “Good Enough.” Progress over perfection. Honest process over polished performance. Nobody here needs a dream shop or a wall of expensive tools to belong. If you’re building something, fixing something, or just thinking about starting, you’re in the right place.

What you’ll find from me around here:

  • Woodworking projects, start to finish, including the parts that went sideways

  • Shop setup and tool talk (what I actually use, not what I’m told to buy)

  • Behind the scenes on the podcast, the live shows, and new videos

  • The creator side of things, for anyone making content about what they make

I built this forum because I wanted a real home for these conversations. Comment sections come and go, but a community sticks around. Going forward, this is where I want the talk about videos, episodes, and projects to happen.

Now it’s your turn. Head over to the introductions section and start your own thread. Tell us who you are, where you’re making from, what you’re working on (or wish you were), and one project that didn’t go as planned. I’ll stop by and say hello.

Glad you’re here.

Josh
