Came across this video of Neewer’s travel tripod recently. I’ve always been in the mindset of spending as little money as possible, but the thought of what you pay for is what you get in regards to having a stable surface for your camera’s. MakerTube Neewer LT-39 Travel Tripod In this review of the Neewer LT-39 Travel Tripod the big surprise is just how good it stands up against the original Peak Design Travel Tripod. It borrows a lot of design inspiration from Peak Desi... makertube.net I’ve heard of Neewer for years now and they’ve always been associated with lower cost or cheap equipment.…

What’s the one thing you have to have within your shop or space? For me, it has to be at least a bit of open space; there are plenty of times you go to move a large project, only to start bumping into other things or the wall itself. I’m not talking about an airplane hangar amount of space (that would be nice 😄) just enough to be comfortable and be comfortable in moving stuff around within it.

Hey, I’m Josh. Welcome to the shop floor. A few weeks ago, I was standing in the garage holding a mailbox post that was about a quarter inch out of square, trying to decide whether to recut it or just call it done. I called it done. It’s out front right now, holding mail just fine. That moment pretty much sums up why this place exists. I’m Josh Bailey, and I run The Maker Dad. I’m a woodworker, a maker, and a dad here in Florida, and I do all of this alongside a full-time job and a busy house. My shop time comes in stolen hours, my projects take longer than I’d like, and I make plenty of mis…

Recently, we’ve acquired a new (to us) car that has SiriusXM built in, just like almost every car built in 2019 or newer has. I decided to go ahead and activate the 3-month complimentary trial to see how things have gone in the past 20 years. I used to be a staunch XM believer when the service first came out many moons ago. The extremely deep playlists, DJ’s that loved the music they curated, and keeping things fresh throughout the service were something I had never experienced. Since music streaming wasn’t really all that widely rolled out. Plus, there were many niche channels that scratched…

As we quickly slide into the time of year that tools deals are going to be plastered all over the place, what are you thinking about picking up? The big box stores are going to be banking on you coming in and picking up some great combo deals. Perhaps expanding your current lineup, or perhaps, like me, you’re going to replace some aging tools that I’m sure are getting close to failure in the very near future.

So, I’m in the process of training myself to use an RSS reader more, instead of going to places like Reddit or the like. I’m going through a few readers and apps to see which one I would like to use going forward. Currently I’m using Reeder, and I’m going to try out Readwise/Reader to see how they stack up. Mostly, I would like to have support for newsletter subscriptions built into the reader, along with YouTube, RSS, of course, and maybe even podcasts. I’m not too worried about the podcast side of things as I use currently Apple Podcasts and like it.

This is for those of us working within the macOS ecosystem. I’m in the planning stages of putting together a video of simplifing the workflow of content creation. What I’m looking to see is what many of you are using for planning and keeping track of the projects you have within the pipeline. Whether this is using Notion, Asana, or how I’m working with currently, Apple Notes and Reminders.

Movies & TV

You're New Sky Daddy
Oh boy, this deal is going to be awesome /s My prediction is that HBO is going to be rebranded, yet again, to Skydance or something like it. We’re going to see movies being pumped out that were written by AI, lose a metric butt ton of money, and price increases the likes of humans have never seen before. All of that within the next two years. source - https://www.indiewire.com/news/breaking-news/paramount-warner-bros-discovery-merger-closes-1235219729/ You speak of competition, but when there is less competition, how is that good? I do love that at least the shareholders got a mention; they…

This past weekend, I came to the realization that perhaps I should go ahead and purchase a phone gimbal. Spending several hours sitting on the metal bleachers, watching the marching band competition, there is a better way to record these performances that isn’t painful. So, went online and did some quick research between the Insta360 thingamabob and the DJI whatsit. I settled on getting the Insta360 gimbal as it seemed to offer a bit more feature wise than the DJI. Now, I have some learning to do when it arrives tomorrow.

New blog post The Maker Dad I'm Done Playing the YouTube Game There are countless gurus out there preaching that you need to keep your video content siloed so your audience, and YouTube itself, doesn't get confused when there are videos of different genres on your channel. They say this helps with viewer retention and helps YouTube figure out which audience themakerdad.com
