Hey there, I'm Josh

Hey, I'm Josh. Welcome to the shop.

If you found your way here, chances are you already know me from The Maker Dad, either the podcast, the blog over at themakerdad.com, the YouTube channel, or the newsletter. If this is your first stop, hi, good to meet you.

I'm not a professional woodworker. I don't have a garage full of Festool, and I'm not trying to convince you that you need one either. I've got a day job, a family, and a shop that I get into whenever I can steal an evening or a weekend afternoon. Everything I build, I build around real life, not the other way around.

That's where "Good Enough" comes from. It's not a slogan, it's more like a permission slip. Good enough to be proud of. Good enough to actually finish. Good enough to learn from, even when it's a little crooked or the finish isn't perfect. I'd rather show you the real process, mistakes and all, than pretend everything comes out of my shop looking like a magazine spread.

So what's this community for?

Honestly, it's the place I wanted when I got into this. Somewhere to ask a dumb question about tool storage without feeling dumb. Somewhere to post a project that's half finished and get actual feedback instead of just likes. Somewhere, the conversation can go deeper than a comment section allows.

The site at themakerdad.com is still where the blog posts, show notes, and long-form stuff live. This community is where we get to actually talk. Shop setups, budget builds, tool questions, live streams, whatever you're working on this week.

A few things you'll find around here as we get going:

  • Category boards for shop setup, budget builds, and general project talk

  • Heads up on new podcast episodes and where to find them

  • A spot for live show stuff, since I've got Maker Dad: Dialed In and MDP Live both running now

  • Straight talk, no gatekeeping, no "you're doing it wrong" energy

If you're new to making things, you belong here just as much as someone who's been doing this for twenty years. I built this place for people figuring it out as they go, because that's exactly what I'm doing too.

Introduce yourself below. Tell me what you're working on, what's in your shop, or what brought you here. I read everything.

Glad you're here.

Josh
